Hugs Ministry of First Baptist Church of Waterford
This ministry has been in existence for approximately 15 years. We are a group of ladies who love to quilt. We are using our love of quilting to help children in crisis situations. We make comfort kits that are shared with the local fire departments, Highway Patrol and various other agencies that help children in crisis situations. A comfort kit is a stuffed animal swaddled with a quilt. This provides something for the child to hug and something to hug the child. We hope this lets these children know that they are loved by our heavenly Father and by someone they have never met. We are fully donation-funded through donations of fabric, stuffed animals and money to buy the batting we use.
Our ongoing outreach includes:
-
Comfort Kits to the Waterford Fire Department
-
Comfort Kits to the local CHP through Officer Tom Olson, who provides the Comfort Kits
-
to the Chaplains
-
Comfort Kits to the Turlock PD, who provides the Comfort Kits to their Chaplains
-
A yearly donation of a quilt or two for the Youth Camp Fundraising Auction
-
Sewing Kits for the Operation Christmas Child boxes for at least the last five years
-
NICU Quilts that are provided to Memorial Hospital, Doctors’ Hospital and Kaiser
-
Hospital, all in Modesto
-
Dog Beds from our scraps that go to local shelters
We have also sent donations of Comfort Kits to the various fire-ravaged areas in the last few
years.
